Work-Based Learning


Work Based Learning at Rancho Mirage High School is a curriculum that links students with industry through a variety of ways including class guest speakers, work site tours, mentoring, job shadowing. In addition to technical skills learned in CTE courses, students also get an opportunity to hone their soft skills or "employability" skills such as customer service, communication, active listening, interviewing and time management.
Work Based Learning (WBL) is a crucial element to Career Technical Education (CTE), The California CTE Model Curriculum Anchor Standards include subject areas of academics, health and safety, technology, and ethics and legal responsibilities.
How Do I Get A Work Permit?
Students under the age of 18 are required to obtain a work permit for a job. Students can apply for a work permit upon meeting qualifications and receiving a job offer. To qualify at RMHS, students must:
- Hold at least a 2.0 GPA in current classes/no Fs
- Have a good- excellent attendance record.
- No major behavior issues/discipline incidents
- To inquire about a work permit, please come see Mr. Kabel in Room #305 at lunch or after school. You can also email him with any questions you may have at jkabel1@psusd.us
- ​You may have your work permit suspended if you fail to attend your Work Experience class while continuing to work.

General Work Experience classes run Wednesday mornings from 9:15-10:15 AM. Current topics being covered include sexual harassment, work permits, and career exploration.
